Abstract

La détermination et l'enregistrement de la dimension verticale d'occlusion représentent une étape capitale du traitement de l'édentement total. En l'absence de documents préextractionnels ou de références anatomiques précises, une méthode est proposée permettant d'établir un espace libre d'inocclusion en harmonie avec la physiologie individuelle de chaque patient. Cette méthode se réfère à deux tests l'un faisant appel à l'élocution afin d'éviter une surestimation, l'autre faisant appel à la déglutition afin d'éviter une sous-estimation de la D.V.O. La D.V.O. retenue se situe dans une marge de tolérance physiologique vérifiée par la phonation et la déglutition.
